Enchanting activities for couples
It’s almost as if Colmar was specially designed for a couple’s getaway because practically every activity available oozes with romantic charm. You won’t find a ton of nightlife or hustle and bustle, but there’ll be plenty of opportunities to cozy up with your special someone.
Taking a boat ride down the canals is an absolute must for couples. The River Launch twists right through the heart of downtown, causing the area to be dubbed “Little Venice.” Group boat tours depart every 15 minutes from 9:45 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. and cost under $10 per person. The ride lasts about 25 minutes and will take you through some of the most beautiful parts of town with a guide explaining significant sites.
For a picnic in the park, head to Parc du Champ de Mars or spend a day renting bicycles and visiting surrounding wineries along the Alsace Wine Route. In town, visit the Choco Story museum, where you can learn about the history of chocolate, taste test samples, and even make your own chocolate bars.
Make sure to carve out plenty of time to wander around the city, get lost on the quaint cobbled paths, and browse the shops where you can leisurely pop into cafes for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. You’ll find the most beautiful views from the Rue des Ecoles bridge.
Gourmet meals and gorgeous accommodations
Colmar is overflowing with lovely accommodations and delicious restaurants where you can enjoy a candlelit meal with your beloved. You can take your pick between adorable B&Bs and luxurious hotels during your stay. Villa Elayne is a gorgeous bed and breakfast located within a 1920s villa with five comfortable guest rooms perfect for an intimate stay. Room prices start at about $120 per night.
Hotel Quatorze is an elegant option right in the heart of the town center. Effortlessly blending historic architecture with stylish modern decor, the hotel has 13 rooms with every possible amenity and beautiful oversized bathtubs. Rooms start at $108 per night.
For optimum luxury, consider booking a room at La Maison des Têtes. The glamorous five-star hotel has 21 rooms outfitted with sleek contemporary decor, and spacious suites are perfect for families or longer stays. Prices start at $330 per night.
The city offers some of the prettiest restaurants for romantic meals during your stay in Colmar, including multiple Michelin-star dining options. Within La Maison des Têtes, you can visit Restaurant Girardin, which has gourmet authentic French cuisine made with seasonal local ingredients. Near the waterfront in Little Venice, try Le Quai 21 for a hint of Mediterranean influence.
