About the Location:Dharamshala is known as the home of the Dalai Lama is one of the biggest national and international tourist tractions in India. It is lined with snow clad mountains and sweet smelling deodar and pine forests with clear turquoise blue streams and ice cold rivers flowing and misty fog raising up is a paradise in disguise. The colourful temples and Gompas (Tibetan Buddhist monasteries), which reflect the culture of Tibet, adds attraction for the visitor. The Kangra museum gives an overview of the rich past of the region and on the other hand, there are institutes that have been established to preserve the Tibetan art, cultures and traditions.
About the Program :The program at Dharamshala aims to bring awareness to the participants about the Tibetan refugees and their settlement in India, to strengthen the non-formal education to the school children and to learn, prepare and participate in community service work on waste management. The program includes trekking in the Himalayas.
Program Agenda
• Awareness to the participants about the Tibetan refugees and their settlement in India.
• To strengthen the non-formal education to the school children and to learn
• Renovation of school building,ground and retaining walls
• Promote awareness and participate in community service work on waste management and to promote responsible tourism
Community services participation
• Renovation work in school
• Teach basic English in school, introduce creative learning through art, music, games etc
• Promote eco-friendly practices
• Wall painting and teaching activities and renovation work like painting educational pictures, repairing retention walls
• Hands on experience at Mega Kitchen by Roti making with other volunteers from different places and countries
• Engage in clean-up activities in a selected location in the community and also will create awareness to the public
• Conduct mural painting on waste management system at public area
Leisure activities:
• Learn about Tibetan history and the struggle against Chinese occupation at several museums and galleries.
• See (and purchase) Tibetan arts and handicrafts, including carpets, thanka (religious paintings), musical instruments, various brass statues and religious artefacts, handbags, clothes and knitwear at various Tibetan centres, shops and street stalls.
• Watch live performances of Tibetan dance, opera, music and theatre.
• Eat a variety of Tibetan food in several authentic Tibetan restaurants.
• Study Tibetan Buddhism, massage, medicine, language or cooking
• Trekking will be organised for 4 days to Triund Mountains
