What you need to know about the resort

Sun Retreats is located just a 10-minute drive away from the coast. However, it also has its own private freshwater lake called Round Pond — complete with a sandy beach to sunbathe on. On the RV sites, there are paved pads, full hookups, fireplaces, and picnic tables which can all help make your stay more comfortable, as well as trees to provide natural shade on hot days. It is ideal for pets, which is great because dogs are allowed here.

To entertain children, there are two swimming pools, a playground, and a miniature golf course. They may also enoy making sandcastles on the lake beach. Falmouth is a hub for outdoor activities with opportunities onsite to swim, fish, row, paddleboard, or take a pedal boat around the lake. The best time to visit for the weather is from late June to early September, but the season runs from late April to the end of October. While it will be a bit cooler, Cape Cod is a beautiful place to visit in the fall. As the verdant trees turn rusty brown, it becomes a photographer’s dream.

Things to do in and around Falmouth

Humpback whale breaching in the ocean

Once you leave the campground, Falmouth itself is a resort town well worth exploring. There are numerous picturesque beaches surrounding it, including Stony Beach, Falmouth Heights Beach, Chapoquoit Beach, Old Silver Beach, and Wood Neck Beach. Perhaps Cape Cod’s biggest attractions (in the literal sense) are the whales that frequently pass by. A boat trip to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary may uncover humpback, fin and minke whales amongst other cetaceans, as well as dolphins, porpoises and seals.

Marine lovers will enjoy the Woods Hole Science Aquarium and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Ocean Science Discovery Center to learn more about the local sea life. For young ones, there is also the Cape Cod Children’s Museum. Visitors can also uncover Cape Cod’s history on foot with a stroll at Highfield Hall and Gardens, Spohr Gardens, the Nobska lighthouse, or the Knob, a scenic spot at Quissett Harbor. To keep kids happy, take them on a trip around the coast on a pirate ship through Cape Cod Pirate Adventures – an arrr-some experience they’ll never forget!

If you fancy going further afield, the island of Martha’s Vineyard is just three miles from Falmouth, and the ferry there takes 30 minutes. The Vineyard is the perfect place to spot wildlife, enjoy nature and relax.
