Although Michigan is perhaps best known for being the mecca of the country’s automobile industry, this Midwest state has more to offer. Michigan has quaint small towns and endless natural beauty, making it the perfect backdrop for a Valentine’s Day celebration. But where exactly in Michigan should you take your significant other? Try Oscoda, an underrated beach town on Lake Huron Shores.

Located in Northern Michigan, it’s under a four drive from Detroit and Grand Rapids. Oscoda’s biggest draw is its offering of outdoor activities like golfing, hiking, and fishing. However, the sleepy town is also home to Huron House, a bed and breakfast that would make for the most romantic Valentine’s Day getaway.

This adult’s only accommodation has garnered a series of acclaim as one of the Best B&Bs in the country. Saying Huron House is scenic would be an understatement. Lakeside views, sandy shores, and greenery surround the B&B. Huron House has 14 rooms, all of which feature a king-sized bed.

In addition, breakfast, such as baked French toast or egg frittata, is provided for couples to enjoy in the privacy of their room at their chosen time. At the time of this writing, Huron House’s prices vary, but you can expect to pay upwards of $554 a night around Valentine’s Day 2024 for this sumptuous experience.

The perks of staying at Huron House

The 14 rooms at Huron House have names like Moonshadow, AuSable, and Tawas (seen above) and feature distinct decor with a beachy ambiance. Despite these differences, each room has a jacuzzi, a fireplace, and a private deck. Note that the jacuzzi is either in the room or outdoors, depending on which room you book. Likewise, the rooms are equipped with a microwave and a mini-fridge. Simply put, Huron House is ideal for a relaxed Valentine’s Day staycation. The TVs connect to a streaming service, meaning you can Netflix and chill with your S.O. for your entire stay.

While the February weather in Michigan is frigid, you and your Valentine can snuggle up and stay warm with Huron House’s outdoor firepit. The firepit is steps away from the water and provides phenomenal views of Lake Huron, one of the largest lakes in the world. Huron House has romantic packages that will contribute to an unforgettable Valentine’s Day. For $200, the Retreat to Romance package will adorn your room with tea lights and provide chocolate-covered strawberries and more. Flower bouquets, including a dozen roses, are available for $125. Additionally, they offer a $100 picnic package that includes prosecco, dessert, and sandwiches.
