Katz's Delicatessen in New York

What’s on the menu at Katz Delicatessen?

The best way to describe Katz’s Delicatessen is “old school.” The restaurant has hundreds of framed pictures on its walls, featuring famous clients. Jake Dell, Katz’s owner, told Business Insider this nostalgia was one reason for the eatery’s longevity. But more importantly, diners can devour classic Jewish-deli staples, such as potato latkes, matzoh ball soup, bagel with cream cheese and lox, and most famously, their highly-coveted, piled-high pastrami sandwich.

In fact, Dell revealed that 15,000 pounds of pastrami are sold weekly, served on either rye or club bread. Katz’s also offers other sandwiches piled equally as high, such as corned beef, Reuben, brisket, turkey, egg salad, chicken salad, and more. With the amount of meat you’re getting, it’s worth every penny you spend.

Katz’s Delicatessen is located in New York’s Lower East Side, only a short subway ride from one of the biggest tourist attractions in NYC: Times Square. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and open 24 hours on weekends! You can expect a long line, so keep that in mind for your visit. If you’re not in New York City and don’t plan to take a trip there anytime soon, you don’t have to miss out: Order everything from Katz’s Pastrami to their bread and pickles from their website. They ship to the United States and Canada.
