Looking for somewhere to take the family next Halloween? Or maybe you love a scare all year round. There’s a hotel in New Hampshire that is waiting to transport you into a haunted world where no one is safe from getting spooked.
Adventure Suites Haunted Castle sits in North Conway and is the kind of experience that rivals anything you can find at Disney, according to its owner Kathy Doucet. Literary Traveler stayed in the Haunted Castle and lauded it as the most creative suite he had stayed in during the 22 years of running his blog. Taylor Newlands, writing on her blog Escapism, also stayed here, and says it’s a place where you can be absolutely terrified (all in the name of fun, of course.) Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
The story behind the castle, according to the hotel’s website, is that it was built by “King and Queen Tumbledown” who, after living there for some time, began to get the sense that it was haunted. They ended up abandoning the castle, and the building fell into disrepair. This is where you come in. (And it’s best to just go with it, trust us.)

First of all, it’s worth mentioning that the Haunted Castle sleeps up to 18 people, so you don’t need to be scared silly alone. Taylor Newlands of Escapism writes that it’s a brilliant place for a party. The castle is certainly large enough to sleep 18 people, with three large bedrooms and three bathrooms, according to the Adventure Suites website.
What else can you expect inside? Best Life notes a tower staircase lined with skulls, a Ouija board, creepy noises during the night, and dim hallways lit by candlelight. Adventure Suites states that this is achieved through a complex computerized system that ensures guests can and will be jump-scared anywhere in the castle.
Newlands loved the surroundings of the hotel too. If you do decide to escape the hauntings for a while, you’ll be treated to scenic views of the distant White Mountains as you settle by the cozy fire pit. But make no mistake: this isn’t your regular escape in New England, and it’s certainly not for the faint of heart.
