If you and your special someone are looking for the perfect place to celebrate your love, there’s a good chance you’ve considered far-flung destinations like Bora Bora and the Maldives, or popular places closer to home like Jamaica and the Bahamas. After comparing factors like reviews of the resort (especially from couples), quality of the amenities, and location, we’ve determined where one of the most romantic resorts in the world is for a tropical honeymoon.
It’s no secret that Sandals is one of the best hotel brands out there; these resorts are popular for a reason. Sandals Royal Curaçao manages to take one of the most beloved honeymoon hotel chains and top its own standards. Not only is the resort itself dreamy, but the underrated nation of Curaçao remains largely unspoiled, with tourism numbers around 1 million per year, in comparison to places like Dominican Republic with numbers closer to 10 million annually.
The most romantic hotel room in the Caribbean
Not only does the natural setting of Curaçao bring the romance simply from its sheer beauty, but Sandals Royal Curaçao has some seriously intimate rooms that will give you the privacy your honeymoon naturally needs (and deserves after throwing a stressful wedding). For the real créme de la créme, book the Awa Seaside Butler Bungalow, where, yes, you read that correctly, you’ll have a private butler. But even more impressively, you’ll have your own private infinity pool which overlooks the Caribbean. As if having your own private pool and butler isn’t already paradisal enough, you’ll also have your own private convertible MINI Cooper to properly explore the island. Take her out for a ride to properly explore the island, which is a great deal to offer for those who love the outdoors.
Enjoy the comfort of your room that has a plush king-sized bed, hardwood floors, a smart TV, and in true all-inclusive fashion, a fully stocked mini bar. If those late-night munchies come calling after a long day soaking up the sun on your private patio, 24-hour room service is also available. Note that this won’t be cheap. To book the Awa Seaside Butler Bungalow for the minimum 3-night stay, it will cost you over $10,000. When we booked it, the original price was almost $22,000, but we received an automatic 45% “off rack rate” that brought the price down to around $12,000. But any price is worth it for a romantic honeymoon, right?
A resort that has it all
While it might be difficult to leave the romantic comfort of your room and private pool, Sandals Royal Curaçao has plenty to explore right on the resort. On property, there are 11 dining options to choose from. Eight are proper sit-down restaurants, with options like Vincent (a modern European eatery) and Strand (a delicious seafood house). For something a little more casual, try one of the three gourmet food trucks on the property — and don’t skip out on the Toteki food truck for a bite of local Curaçao fare.
One of the most spectacular things about staying on a Sandals resort is that everyday, you can do something different. At Sandals Royal Curaçao, you and your partner can sign up for PADI-Certified Scuba Diving, whether it’s your first time or hundredth. If you want to get out in those deep blue Caribbean waters but don’t necessarily want to dive, rent a kayak, paddle board, or water trike right from the resort. And if you do want to get under the water but aren’t ready to dive, grab a snorkel and keep an eye out for sea turtles.
If you’re more of a land-loving couple, the options are seemingly just as unlimited. Try shuffleboard, tennis, beach volleyball, bocce, or cricket. And if you and your special someone came to simply relax, don’t skip out on the Caribbean-inspired Red Lane Spa.
How we decided Sandals Curaçao was the bee’s knees
Sandals Resorts
In coming to our conclusion for the best resort in a tropical destination, we took into consideration a few factors. First and foremost, we have personally stayed at Sandals resorts and particularly love the consistency across the board in top-notch amenities, high-quality customer service, and the fact that all Sandals resorts are adults-only. Secondly, honeymoons should feel intimate and private, so we looked at location. Curaçao is unspoiled and not nearly as visited as some nearby Caribbean islands, making the destination feel exclusive and therefore, extra romantic. After analyzing those factors, all roads led to Sandals Curaçao as the most romantic destination in the region.
