Live-bait rescue is the topic of this whitewater safety video from Canoe & Kayak, Jim Coffey and Mike McKay.

In this technique, a rescuer swims to the person in need while tethered to a team member at an anchor point on shore. This type of rescue is difficult and dangerous and requires regular practice with trained experts.

According to the video, the technique can be used to help a paddler clear a hole, to rescue a boat, swimmer or both from being stuck in a hole, or at any other time when a tether may be effective.
