Fun fall activities
One of the state’s most frequently visited destinations, Rocky Mountain National Park is a popular place to visit in the fall, and rightfully so. In addition to breathtaking views, there’s numerous hiking, biking, climbing, and camping opportunities throughout the park. You can immerse yourself in nature by hiking one of the 300 plus miles of trails, hopping in your car and taking a scenic drive, or observing the abundance of wildlife. If you come during September and October, you’ll witness the area’s peak fall foliage.
Another activity we suggest is making time to explore one of Colorado’s eclectic mountain towns. You’ll often find friendly faces, hearty food, and adorable storefronts in buildings that’ll make you feel like you’ve taken a step into the past. Towns like Telluride, Buena Vista, Leadville and Crested Butte are brimming with history, fabulous restaurants and unique shops.
If you’re fond of harvesting produce, head to Colorado’s Western Slope for a visit to Big B’s Fruit Company located in the friendly town of Hotchkiss. You’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains and fun fall activities at your fingertips. Pick as many apples and pears as you want or grab a cider and slow sip on it while you take it all in. If you time it right, you can go during Cider Fest — a fall festival featuring live music, local vendors, and cider tastings.
Something for the kids
If you’re traveling with kids, you know how important it is to keep them entertained. You can certainly do that at Lil’ Buckaroo’s Farm in Erie, Colorado. Sign up for the farm’s hour-long, self-guided tour where you’ll be able to meet and interact with goats, pigs, sheep, miniature donkeys, bunnies, and more. On Thursdays and Fridays the farm offers Toddler Time, which is an engaging, educational program geared toward toddlers and their caregivers. It’s $15 for adults, $12 for kids ages 17 and younger, and free for infants under one.
A fall trip to Colorado can easily be filled with a plethora of outdoor activities and incredible sights to observe. There’s something for everyone, no matter age or background. Whether you enjoy the state’s stunning scenery by car, while hiking along a trail deep in the forest, or while spending time with the locals on an orchard or farm; Colorado is an enchanting place to be, especially in the fall.
