Piling into an RV for a weekend — or a week — with family and/or friends can lead to delightful memories. Whether you’re making s’mores at the campfire, taking in gorgeous views on a hike, or laughing and sharing stories before falling asleep, camping can be a great opportunity for bonding on a deeper level with those you care about. The place you choose to camp at can also impact what memories are made because location shapes what activities there are to do and what amenities are at your fingertips. For those who want a memorable time in nature but still want access to modern convenience, the luxury RV resort, Sun Outdoors Petoskey Bay Harbor located in northern Michigan’s upscale resort town of Petoskey, is definitely an upgraded camping experience.

This luxury, gated RV park, formerly called Petoskey RV Resort, offers the most amenities that will make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Amenities including basketball and pickleball courts, a fitness center, free wifi, a putting green, an on-site store, and a pool with a hot tub, make this 26-acre campground ideal for family fun. And we can’t forget to mention the beautiful views of Lake Michigan you’ll wake up to every morning.

Activities in and outside of the resort

Petoskey's Gaslight Shopping District and Marina

Once you arrive and set up, you can immediately begin to explore your surroundings or partake in one of the many activities available at this picturesque campground. Take a dip in the pool, spend some time admiring the views of Lake Michigan (or even swimming in it), relax in the hot tub, catch a movie in the theater, or even challenge your friends or family members in the game room. “[I] am staying at Petoskey RV Resort for the first time and am super impressed with the property,” a reviewer wrote on TripAdvisor. “It was very easy registering and the office staff was very kind and explained the resort to us to make us comfortable. […] Everything seems new and very clean. [I] will stay here every time I am in this area.”

Your practical needs will also be met — Sun Outdoors Petoskey Bay Harbor offers bathrooms with showers, a laundry room, a fitness facility, a library and spaces to work. If you do decide to leave the park, you can visit one of the nearby beaches along Lake Michigan, or go hiking in the area. The Old Baldy and Portage Loop and the McCune Nature Preserve Trail are great options to explore. The charming lake side town of Petoskey also presents an opportunity to peruse quaint shops and enjoy delicious dining in its famous Gaslight Shopping District near its idyllic marina.

The cool RV resort offers full-hookup sites that are complete with fire pits and picnic tables. Prices range between $93 and $113 per night with the exception of the Premium Coach House Full Hookup RV site, which goes for $126 per night and has, as the name explains, a small house on the site. If you don’t have an RV or simply don’t want to bring one, you can also still stay at and enjoy the resort in a cottage. The one and two-bedroom cottages include a private bathroom, full sized kitchen, AC and heat, and more. They range from $228 to $238 per night. Their Premium Cottage One Bedroom is wheelchair accessible. And you can bring your dogs along with you on your camping vacation as pets are also welcome at the RV resort.

While there aren’t any restaurants on site, there are plenty of eateries from casual to fine dining in nearby downtown Petoskey, along with grocery stores where you can purchase your groceries to prepare your own meals back at your RV or cottage. Next time you’re considering a camping trip where you can connect with loved ones in nature without sacrificing convenience and spectacular local beauty, head to this northern Michigan gem — Sun Outdoors Petoskey Bay Harbor has it all.
