Unsatisfied with his photography over the years, Australian photographer Russell Ord decided to step it up—big. What’s he seeking? One shot. One, incredible, unforgettable shot that captures not just what he does, but who he is. And he’s willing to get there at any cost. “I’ve got no problem with drowning, getting eaten…anything really. If I do drown, it will be my own fault for not training,” he says.

And he just may. The “secret” big wave break in Western Oz has been said to be “one of the heaviest slabs in the world,” known for its remoteness…and its sharks.

“I do not want to be remembered for just being in the channel at the right time and right place capturing the surfer’s wave of a lifetime. Because in the end, that’s easy.”
